About N H D M
N H D M is a New York-based practice for design and research operating at the intersection of architecture and urbanism, founded by its partners Nahyun Hwang and David Eugin Moon. Each project of N H D M is a unique exploration of today’s complex cultural, social, and environmental milieu, and experimentation toward new spatial potentials. The realities of contemporary cities and territories serve not only as the subjects of investigation but as critical inspiration and fertile testing grounds. Through carefully framed research, propositions, and material executions, the work aims to be introspective yet anticipatory. N H D M's ongoing work includes a wide range of cultural/institutional, dwelling, and community and public space projects, as well as urban landscapes and territorial scale research that explore some of the most critical topics of in the contemporary built environment. N H D M's work is bolstered by the principals’ extensive transdisciplinary experiences prior to founding.

Exhibitions
N H D M’s work has been exhibited and presented at global venues including the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2021 Venice Biennale, 2019 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the 5th and 6th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, and the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at 2014 Venice Biennale, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, the Center for Architecture New York, UMMA Stenn Gallery, and the Cornell University Hartell Gallery among others. New exhibit “Migrating Futures” is forthcoming at18th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2023 Venice Biennale.
Principals
Nahyun Hwang 건축가황나현
Hwang is a registered architect in the State of New York and Massachusetts, andholds a Master's degree in Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.
Until founding N H D M, Hwang practiced as a Senior Associate at James Corner Field Operations, and played a critical role in the design and implementation of the firm’s High Line Section 1 and Section 2 as the Lead Designer (2004-2006) and Lead Project Designer (2007-2010), heading a multidisciplinary design team of architects, landscape architects, and others. Under the direction of Stan Allen, she was also a project designer for the architectural elements for Field Operations’ 2,200 acre public park Fresh Kills, the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus Master Plan, and the proposal for the Taichung Contemporary Music Center in Taiwan.
Prior to Field Operations, she practiced at Stan Allen Architects;Herzog & de Meuron; OMA; and the studio of Rafael Moneo, contributing to a wide range of built and speculative projects, including the Walker Art Center expansion in Minneapolis, MN; "La Reserva" housing prototypes in Santiago, Chile; Dee and Charles Wyly Theater, Dallas, TX; and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles, CA.
Hwang has taught at University of Michigan and Cornell University, and currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in Architecture at Columbia University GSAPP. Hwang is a 2010 University of Michigan Muschenheim Fellow and a recipient of 2016 New York State Council of Art Independent Projects Grant.

David Eugin Moon
Moon is a registered architect in the State of New York and the Netherlands, andholds a Master's degree in Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan.
Until founding N H D M, Moon practiced in offices in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and as a key designer at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam and New York. His contributions at OMA include the Koningen Julianaplein in the Hague, the PRADA Transformer in Seoul, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, the White City W12 master plan in London, the Museum Plaza project in Louisville, the Cordoba Congress Center in Cordoba, Spain, and research work for AMO.
Other works prior to OMAinclude the Yokohama Mixed Use Housing Competition and Sagaponac House while working for Shigeru Ban in Tokyo, and the New School Renovation, artist’s residence, and Tamarkin condominiums for 1100 Architect.
Moon was previously faculty in the Architecture Department at Cornell University, Yale University, and the Taubman College at the University of Michigan. He is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in Architecture at Columbia University GSAPP, where he teaches options studio and seminars. Moon’s current research examines the notion of architectural speculation in the context of the contemporary milieu as well as research and design work on the architectural program.
