One visit to the Georgetown square and you will quickly see why it was named as ‘The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.’ From the beautiful courthouse to the towering oak trees and unique, historic buildings, the downtown square and historic area are the perfect places to start your visit to Georgetown, TX.

The historic town square is home to numerous boutique shops, wineries, coffee shops, and art galleries, making the downtown square a fabulous place to spend the day while you are visiting Georgetown.

Georgetown Art Center

Art lovers will definitely want to visit the Georgetown Art Center while spending time in the city. This non-profit organization prides itself on making art more accessible to the general public, and they do just that!

In addition to the art exhibits and art shows that are hosted here, the Georgetown Art Center also hosts themed events and children’s programs throughout the list.

During your visit, take special note of the building that houses the art center as it used to be the city’s fire department.

Inner Space Cavern

Discovered by the Texas Highway Department in 1963, Inner Space Cavern was officially open to the public in 1966.

The cave, which is the forth most extensive cave system in Texas, boasts loads of cool rock formations. Inside, you will see stalactites, stalagmites, pillars, and if you are lucky, even bats!

Inner Space Cavern offers up three different tours for you to choose from. Their Adventure Tour is a family-friendly tour that is a perfect introduction to the cave and its many formations.

For those of you feeling a bit more adventurous, be sure to check out the Hidden Passages Tour, the Wild Cave Tour, or the Ice Age Tour offered at Inner Space Cavern.

In addition to the cave tours, Inner Space Caverns is also home to a zipline, a playground, and a gemstone panning area.

After your cave tour, take time to browse the gift shop and see the many skeletal relics that were found inside of the cave.

Sweet Eats Fruit Farm

Sweet Eats Fruit Farm prides themselves on providing delicious, nutrient dense fruit that is also environmentally friendly. Now, I don’t know about you, but I can totally get on board with this!

One of the most popular things to do at Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is to pick your own fruits. Now, of course, what is in season will vary depending on the time of year you are visiting.

If you have a particular fruit in mind, then take note that strawberries are usually ready to pick around March and May, and stone fruits like peaches, plums, pears, and nectarine generally ripen between May and August.

Fruit picking isn’t the only thing to do at Sweet Eats though. Visitors can also enjoy the pony rides, petting zoo, play areas, and, even the on-site maze during their visit.

One of the biggest (and most popular) events at Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is the annual festivals that they hold on the property. The Fall Festival boasts a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, a food truck, live music, and more!

Blue Hole Park & Lagoon

When you are ready to connect with nature, head to Georgetown’s Blue Hole Park.

Located just a few blocks from the historic Downtown Square, and one of the city’s scenic river parks, Blue Hole Park is an oasis right in the heart of the city.

The park offers up a great place to swim, fish, kayak, and sunbathe thanks to the park’s lagoon area which is connected to the San Gabriel River.

A visit to the lagoon area makes you feel as if you have escaped into a world miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Surrounded by limestone cliffs and small waterfalls, the lagoon portion of the San Gabriel River is the perfect place to spend some time relaxing during your trip to Georgetown, TX.

Lake Georgetown

Another of the hidden gems offering up exciting activities in Georgetown, TX is the 1200-acre Georgetown Lake.

Lake Georgetown is the perfect place to channel your outdoor enthusiast thanks to the many recreational opportunities open to visitors.

You can grab you rod and reel and try your hand at fishing. Anglers are known to pull white bass, catfish, and small and largemouth bass out of Lake Georgetown.

Jim Hogg Park and Cedar Breaks Park give you lake access to not only launch your boat, but they also offer picnic area, restrooms, and camping facilities with RV hookups. While Russell Park offers a designated swimming area in addition to the camping area that includes restrooms and showers.

Georgetown Lake is also a great place to enjoy some outdoor exercise. Hit up the 26 mile San Gabriel River Trail and make your way completely around the lake! Of course, if you’re like me and that is too much exercise for one day, you can choose just a section of the trail to explore.

During our time in Georgetown, TX, we visited Overlook Park and enjoyed walking a portion of trial while enjoying great views of the lake and surrounding prairie land.

San Gabriel Park

Located in one of the historical buildings on the historic square, the Georgetown Winery serves up delicious wine, wine slushies, and gourmet food items for visitors to enjoy.

See a Live Performance at Georgetown Palace Theatre

The non-profit performing arts center showcases local talent and hosts fun productions like Singin’ In the Rain, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Cabaret, A Tuna Christmas, and more.

Once inside the art-décor theatre, take advantage of the show themed co*cktails before finding your seat for showtime!

The Monument Cafe is one of the go-to places in Georgetown, TX thanks to the popular Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

Open for breakfast and lunch, the Monument Cafe serves up some delicious home cooking food to both locals and visitors. Their convenient location right off of the town square means that they are quick and easy to get to while exploring historic Georgetown, TX.

Priding themselves on serving up as many locally sourced ingredients possible, the Monument Café will make you feel as if you are eating from grandma’s kitchen (and I mean that as a HUGE compliment).

Enjoy their made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls, pearl sugar waffles, or traditional migas if you are visiting during breakfast hours.

No matter what time of day you visit the Monument Cafe, be sure to save some room for their incredible pie. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.

Williamson Museum

The museum, which is located in an old bank building, showcases the history of Williamson County and the greater Georgetown, TX area through interactive exhibits and educational displays.

Explore the collection of artifacts that tell the stories of the area before taking one of the free guided tours offered by the museum.

Tours are offered of the museum building, the Civil War Cemetery, and the Williamson County Courthouse.

Grape Creek On The Square

Located on the historic downtown square, Grape Creek serves up delicious Texas wines in a fabulous location.

Do a tasting and allow their professional staff to help you to choose a new favorite wine during your time at Grape Creek.

You can purchase a glass of wine (or a bottle of wine) to enjoy either inside the tasting room or on their outdoor patio.

If you visit on the weekend, then be sure to enjoy the live music that is offered as well.

Georgetown Public Library

In addition to a traditional library where you can read books, play video games, and listen to music, the Georgetown Public Library is also home to beautiful artwork, a bookstore, and an on-site café and coffee shop.

Old Williamson County Jail

312 S. Main Street

One of the unique buildings dating back to 1888, is the Old Williamson County Jail located just a few blocks from the Georgetown Square.

The building, which was built in a Classical French Bastille style, is reminiscent of the some of the castles and fortresses we saw in Germany and Scotland.

The jail, which was used for almost 100 years, was home to some of the areas most notorious criminals.

Despite being closed to the public, you can still go by and have a look at the grand limestone building if you choose.

Veteran’s Memorial Plaza

The Veteran’s Memorial Plaza in Georgetown, TX pays tribute to the soldiers that have fought for the freedoms of our great nation.

Located in the Sun City Community of the city, the plaza is a place of remembrance for those who gave their lives fighting for our nation’s freedom.

The plaza consists of two walls made from bricks engraved with the names of veterans who served our country during various wars throughout its history.

Georgetown Murals

During your time in Georgetown, be sure to check out all of the fun street art and murals that are located around town.

There is a Greetings from Georgetown mural on the west wall of Gus’s Drug on University, and a beautiful mural titled “Traditions to the Future” located at 215 W. 8th Street.

One of my personal favorites is the mural titled, “Dreaming of Papaver Rhoeas” by Angela Effenberger. This gorgeous mural depicts the red poppy flowers that Georgetown is known for and can be found on the side of the Starbucks.

Other noteworthy murals include the “All You Need is Love” mural at 1202 Williams Drive and the “Everyone Deserves Kindness” mural that is located at 101 East Seventh Street.

Of course, these are only a few pieces of public art found around Georgetown. You will notice public art installations throughout the city. Just be on the lookout for it.
